Definition of Anti Static Wrist Bands & Mats

An antistatic wrist band with a detachable ground wire is the best investment you can make into your computer. Computer components are very fragile to static damage, and working with anti static mats & wrist bands are the easiest way to avoid inadvertanly damaging your PC.

They must be connected to a ground, preferably a large metal object to work. Any free electrons, which cause static electricity, are diverted from your body to the ground. There is no such thing as a "wireless" version. The physics simply don't make sense because electrons can't jump from the band to the ground without a wire.
